Confidence: How to Look The Part

It’s so important… confidence that is. Without it you’re D.O.A., Dead On Arrival! Hear me out on this one. When you’re in social settings, you’re most likely to speak or listen to the person who commands your attention, right? The person who makes “an entrance” so to speak. You know the type. White blazer, nude pumps, perfectly messy “top knot”, with just the right touch of blush and lipstick.

Ironically, their best accessory doesn’t come byway of a statement necklace or chandelier earrings. It’s that Colgate smile that exudes authenticity, and those bright beaming eyes that just draw you into their world.  This description is that of one who displays true confidence.

When confident people speak, there isn’t a tinge of doubt in their tone. They’re absolutely sure of it. No matter what “IT” may be. They’re confident in what they believe, therefor, they’re confident in what they speak.

As they make their rounds, moving about, from person-to-person, they’ve got pep-in-their-step. It’s freaking magical! Or is it? Unbeknownst to you, that kind of entrance has nothing to do with magic. It has EVERYthing to do with CONFIDENCE.

Honestly, statement necklaces may get you noticed, but it’s your overall CONFIDENCE and how you carry yourself that makes you UNFORGETTABLE.

I can assure you, you won’t find the “Life of the Party” or the star candidate standing off to the sideline, lurking in the shadows, or peering at their cellphone in hope of appearing socially connected. It just doesn’t happen that way. If you’re eager to advance, or if you want to be recognized as the leader you are, you have to standout from the crowd.  You’ve gotta wear the statement necklace and gleam with confidence while doing it. Your self-confidence can place you a step above the rest (aka your competition). This week we’re going to break confidence down into three parts: Appearance, Perception, & Communication (Networking).

These three things will help you set the foundation for looking and feeling more confident on your journey to personal success.

Today we’re focusing on the importance of appearance, and looking the part.

THIS IS SO NECESSARY!

You’re smart, you know your stuff, and that’s definitely a step in the right direction.

Like it or not, being knowledgable is only half of the battle. Your daily attire and overall appearance is the other half.

It’s so easy to get distracted by what your co-workers, friends and peers are doing. I know, I get it.

They may dress more casual than “business” as that tends to be the trend these days. That doesn’t mean you have to follow along that path. Rather, use this opportunity to your advantage. Show up and standout.

Always remember the two P’s… PROFESSIONAL + POLISHED

I know what you’re thinking… what’s the point, right?  No one puts any effort into their attire, correct?

Everyone dresses the same, huh?

Lookah there!

Do you see that—–>>>That’s an opportunity for you to make a positive, lasting impression. <<<——

That’s exactly why I urge you to take the opposite approach. AND, when it counts, you’ll be most memorable because of it. People tend to like people who dress well (even if they don’t particularly dress well themselves).  When you show up dressed for the part, you’re most likely to land the role you’re auditioning for.

Here are some examples of Polished+ Profesh attire, take a look, get inspired, and drop in on Thursday. I’ll be sharing a few jewels on the subject of “Perception” and how it affects confidence building.  Meanwhile, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I loved, agreed with and needed this post. I’m a ball of complexity when it comes to socializing. I love it, yet I dread it when it comes to strangers. I don’t like crowds but I adore intimate, more personal settings. I’ve been working on creating a happy median within myself and this post was just the boost I needed. I love it. Thanks Maya!!
